Welcome to the 2022 Cotton Breeder and Pathology Tour! After a long hiatus, we are excited to welcome cotton breeders and pathologists to the Mid-South for a three-day tour from Memphis.
Our future defense against diseases and nematodes depends heavily on cotton breeders and pathologists. This tour is designed to enhance communication and collaboration so that growers have a pipeline of protection from current and future pest threats. Even though we have host plant resistance traits for bacterial blight, Verticillium wilt, reniform nematode, and root knot nematodes, we have no back up traits when pest resistance breaks out. And for many diseases, such as target spot, Fusarium wilt, viruses, and seedling disease complex, we have no commercially available host plant resistance traits.
The 2022 joint Cotton Breeder and Pathology tour will take place from Tuesday, September 13th through Thursday, September 15th, with field visits in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi. Please join us at the Hu Hotel, where we have a room block reserved.
Cotton Incorporated is pleased to offer free registration for this tour. This includes three meals a day on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, plus transportation to and from the field research sites from the Hu Hotel on Tuesday and Thursday. Participants are asked to cover their travel to and from Memphis as well as their hotel.
