Cotton’s Dirty Laundry Tour

Release Date: Wednesday, September 07, 2005

New York, NY - In September, 2005, Cotton Incorporated will kick off Cotton’s Dirty Laundry Tour. A college campus tour, this multi-platform program will educate young men and women on buying and caring for their clothing and decorating their dorm while maintaining an active, independent lifestyle. The tour is designed to engage college students as they begin to experience life away from their parents and all the freedom and responsibility that it entails.

Cotton’s Dirty Laundry Tour is visiting ten college campuses during this fall throughout the U.S., providing a mobile marketing festival event to heighten awareness and exposure of cotton among college students. Activities focus around what’s relevant to this demographic group – from music and sports to great fall fashions and the ease of laundry care.

This generation, known as “millennials”, spends $140 billion annually. They are unique, self-aware, economically powerful and a technologically savvy force. “College age consumers in this exploratory time capsule are testing and redefining their likes and dislikes, loyalties and values. It is at this important juncture that they are responsible for their lifestyle budgets,” states Paula Rosario, vice president, retail and fashion marketing, Cotton Incorporated. “It is likely to be the first time they are responsible for the care of their wardrobes and dorm room products. This group will soon emerge as full-time wage earners, making this a prime opportunity for cotton brand interaction.”

The Cotton’s Dirty Laundry Tour festival area will feature boldly colored interactive structures with eye-catching elements appealing to college kids’ specific attitudes and preferences. All program elements will speak to this group in their own language; full of irony and satire, and ultimately, an engaging and fun experience.

The program will be promoted via multiple channels including www.accesscotton.com, the official Cotton’s Dirty Laundry Tour site, which goes live on September 20, 2005. Cotton’s Dirty Laundry Tour dates, free music downloads, fashion and dorm décor tips, laundry advice, fun games and more will be available on this designated site.

Cotton Incorporated is a leader in lifestyle research, monitoring America’s attitudes and behavior toward apparel and home furnishings. “Cotton’s Dirty Laundry Tour has given us the opportunity to develop the Cotton Consultants, explains Mark Messura, vice president, strategic planning, Cotton Incorporated. “We plan to form a relationship with college students that will allow us to observe this demographic’s consumer shopping patterns as they enter new life stages.”

Cotton Incorporated will be working with experiential marketing agency Jack Morton Worldwide. Jack Morton Worldwide creates live events, branded environments and interactive experiences that engage, educate and entertain employee, business and consumer audiences, as well as large-scale, globally televised ceremonies. Cotton’s Dirty Laundry Tour Activities

Cotton Fashion Customization Station – establishing personal style
It’s the trend for fall, loads of embellishment with lots of personal style. Coeds can BYOC – “bring your own cotton/clothes” and decorate their t-shirts, jeans and jackets with customization materials like heat press transfers, airbrushed artwork and stencils.

Rinse and Spin Photo Booth – the resurgence of an age-old pastime; sharing photos with friends
Coeds will pile into the Rinse and Spin Photo Booth and smile for the camera. They can email digital photos to themselves and friends and then download them from accesscotton.com.

Washing Machine Pop-A-Shot! – a game of hoops
They’ll have 30 seconds to show off their basketball prowess and laundry know-how. Three giant, fabricated washing machines will represent the choices of hot, warm and cold water for laundry needs. Students will select multi-colored balls, each sporting a laundry care label. The winner will be the first to sort the laundry care labels and successfully toss the balls into the appropriate machines.

Wheel of Cotton – take a spin, you gotta play to win!
A “Price Is Right” – type of spinning wheel gives coeds the opportunity to test their cotton knowledge to win great cotton products and answer some fun questions.

Dorm Décor – demonstrates the ubiquitous existence of the fabric of their lives – cotton
A tricked-out dorm room will provide students with ideas on how to decorate with cotton products. The dorm room will feature budget-conscious furniture and accessories and will act as a lounge with a dj spinning tunes all day long. And students can enter for a chance to win the “Dorm Décor Essentials” sweepstakes. One student from each campus will walk away with some cool cotton comforts for their dorm room.

Fashion Catwalk and “Push My Button” Models
An ongoing fashion event throughout the day. Live campus models wearing the latest fall fashions will walk the catwalk. Coeds may ‘push their buttons’ if they need a life-line at the Wheel of Cotton.

The Rock and Load Sweepstakes – the mix master, super blaster, rolls on casters WASH-O-TAINMENT CENTER! It does everything…but wash your clothes.
A customized washing machine with the washing components removed and in place filled with flat screen tv’s, mp3 players, speakers, car stereo, DVD player, video game system and more.
