A vast range of grower controlled variables are studied in Cotton Incorporated sponsored projects. Changes in row spacing, planting patterns, plant populations, and new varieties may improve profitability over traditional systems. Several projects evaluate new pest-management technologies, including comparison of costs and returns of transgenic varieties in comparison with non-transgenic varieties and conventional pest management. Developing cost-effective means to manage Palmer amaranth and glyphosate-resistant horseweed is currently in process. The continued development and implementation of the COTMAN™ management system are among current priorities.
