COTTON YIELD MONITOR ASSESSMENT – VARIETY COMPARISONS

A cotton yield monitor can provide good estimates of relative spatial differences in yield within the boundaries of a field, but require calibration to get precise estimates of seed cotton mass. A question still remains if variety impacts the calibration, and this is particularly important to know if yield monitor data were used in any type of variety comparison study. The objective of this study was to determine if cotton yield monitors require a variety-specific calibration; and if so, determine if a simple correction factor can be applied based on boll size or turn out.
