IMPACT OF BRIX LEVEL (SUGAR) ENHANCERS ON INSECTS AND YIELD

Andrea Phillips Jones, University of Missouri

The objective of this study was to find support for the claim that manipulating plant Brix levels to produce high-Brix crops results in reduced insect pest pressure.  Field data collected from cotton fields in Portageville, MO does not indicate a relationship between Brix-levels and plant bug counts. The yield result also indicate that when Brix products were foliar applied they did not increase lint yield in cotton.  Brix products had no effect on fiber quality.
