AVERAGE CROP REVENUE ELECTION (ACRE) DECISION AID FOR COTTON PRODUCERS AND LAND OWNERS

James Richardson, Texas AgriLife Research

The overall objective of this project is to create a decision aid in order to assist farmers and landowners to evaluate the ACRE (Average Crop Revenue Election) part of farm payments. Farmers are given the option of keeping the current direct payment and counter-cyclical payment program or electing the new ACRE program. They can make the decision in 2010, or 2011, or 2012. Once the decision is made to switch to ACRE for a farm number, the farm cannot change back. The irreversibility of the decision adds to the risk of a "bad" decision.
