NEW MARKETS FOR LOW MICRONAIRE COTTON

Seshadri S. Ramkumar, Texas Tech University

The project is aimed at finding new opportunities for low micronaire cotton. Research to-date has been extremely successful and as shown in many experiments involving multiple oils: 1) Non detergent motor oil; 2) Regular motor oil; 3) Diesel motor oil and 4) Canola oil, that low micronaire cotton absorbs oil better than base range cotton and synthetics. 1 gram of low micronaire cotton absorbs approximately 50 grams of oil. Overall outcome of the research on low micronaire cotton for oil sorption was presented at the Texas State Support Committee Meeting, Lubbock, December 2012.
