This conference is a long-overdue third installment in a series which has focused attention on Lygus bugs and other mirid pests. The first Symposium was held in Ottawa, Canada back in 2005 while the second was in Pacific Grove, California in 2007. Five years later and there has been a dramatic expansion in both our knowledge of mirids and in the problem they present to growers worldwide.
During October 28-31, 2012, we will again convene many of the world’s experts on mirids, exploring areas of recent discovery and identifying needs and priorities for ongoing research and education. Presenters from universities, public agencies, and private entities will participate in plenary talks, posters sessions and both formal and informal discussions. Symposium topics will broadly include mirid biology, behavior and ecology, IPM, insecticides and resistance, biological control, intercrop movement, and molecular approaches. There will also be an optional tour of local farms and agricultural research facilities on November 1st.
