State Support Program Review Report (Southeast Region) State Support Program Review Report (Southeast Region)

In 2006 – 2007 Cotton Incorporated contracted with Blue Heron Consulting to determine the extent to which cotton farming practices studied, developed or otherwise supported through Cotton Incorporated’s State Support Program (SSP) research have been adopted by growers in the Southeastern region.. The team of researchers reviewed the research topics and associated growing practices where SSP resources have been the most intensively focused in the ten year period 1996 to 2005. A survey instrument was developed and incorporated within a large-scale Dillman Total Survey Design Method to gather data on the extent to which specific practices have been adopted.

The survey was sent via mail to a random sample of 1,548 cotton producers in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Alabama requesting information about their production practices. Of the surveys that were sent, 34% (523) were returned, of which 455 were complete and usable (30%).
