Cotton. From Blue to Green™ Working with Habitat for Humanity of Great Baton Rouge Building Houses for Hurricane-Affected Families

Release Date: Tuesday, May 01, 2007

New York, NY - Baton Rouge, LA- Cotton Incorporated, through the Cotton. From Blue to Green.™ denim drive teams with Bonded Logic, Inc and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Baton Rouge to build 12 houses for hurricane-affected families.

In 2006, the Cotton. From Blue to Green.™ denim drive traveled to 14 colleges throughout the nation and collected an astounding 14,566 pieces of denim, doubling the original goal. The donated denim was converted to Ultra Touch™ natural fiber insulation and helped in the building of 12 houses for hurricane-affected families.

On April 26th, a team of volunteers from Cotton Incorporated and Bonded Logic, Inc joined the 500 Habitat for Humanity volunteers that traveled from around the nation to install approximately 40,000 sq. ft of the UltraTouch™ Natural Fiber Cotton Insulation.

“There are about 12,000 hurricane-impacted families living in greater Baton Rouge in need of adequate housing,” say Bob Slaven, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity. “Over a two week period, Habitat for Humanity International, corporate sponsors such as Cotton Incorporated and volunteers from around the continent and here at home in Baton Rouge are helping 12 families help themselves recover from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina by building new homes. Habitat for Humanity of Greater Baton Rouge is honored to assist with that effort.”

Once the denim was collected through Cotton. From Blue to Green.™, JBM Fibers, a leading manufacturer of reprocessed fiber based in Brownsville, Texas processed the denim and returned it to its natural original fiber state, cotton, for the manufacturing of the insulation. From there, Bonded Logic, Inc., a leader in natural fiber insulation, converted the material into UltraTouch™ Natural Cotton Fiber Insulation, an environmentally safe, non-itch insulation made from natural fibers that offers exceptional acoustic and thermal performance with no carcinogenic warnings, formaldehyde, or chemical irritants used.

"Cotton Incorporated is honored to be working with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Baton Rouge," stated Paula G. Rosario, Vice President Consumer Marketing- Strategic Alliances, Cotton Incorporated. "Students from around the nation worked tirelessly to gather denim through the Cotton. From Blue to Green denim drop. Cotton Incorporated is eager to show how the students can make a difference and give back to a community in need."
