Knitting Product Development and Design Workshop
About the Workshop
Whether intended for intimate apparel or outerwear, the fundamentals of knitted fabric construction remain constant. The Knit Product Development and Design workshop focuses on the science of knitting with a thorough examination of the structure of basic knitted products and the parameters impacting their performance. In this class, there will be an emphasis on weft knitting with a primary focus on circular yarn goods. The design and development of knitted fabrics will be covered. The workshop will be lecture based with ample opportunity for examining knitted fabrics. Tours of the Cotton Incorporated knitting laboratory will aid in reinforcing the concepts covered in class (Cary only).
Prerequisites
This is an intermediate level course. Knowledge of knitting science is required.
Topics Covered
- Basics of knitting.
- Product development and design for single and double knits, jacquard, textured and structured knits, striped fabrics, and terry/velours.
- CAD/CAM
