Yarn Product Development and Design
About the Workshop
The workshop covers the key components for the manufacturing of cotton spun yarns using all the spinning systems available in the industry today. In addition to the manufacturing of standard ring spun, open end, and air jet yarns, there will be discussions on novelty yarns, stretch yarns, and numerous effect yarns. Course work covers the interaction from the spinning lab to fabric production to retail. The lectures describe these yarn manufacturing techniques as well as the equipment used. Laboratory exercises test and illustrate processes that prepare cotton and other fibers for spinning as well as the yarn formation processes. Examples of the use of the various yarns in fabric development will be discussed in a case study format.
