Insect-management studies emphasize efficacy, cost reduction, and use of natural enemies with emphasis on pests with sucking mouthparts. Insects and weeds have the potential to develop resistance to pesticides, including some of our most cost-effective chemicals. Several projects throughout the Cotton Belt address the development of management practices to reduce the danger of losing entire pesticide classes needed for use against troublesome pests. Cotton Incorporated supports the Boll Weevil Eradication Program. In 2005, continued emphasis will be placed on technology important to the post-eradication phase of the program. Weevil management is one of the essentials for profitable cotton in virtually every state.
